Driving sensible development at the old fish market site.
The redevelopment of the Sydney Fish Market site is well advanced in terms of plans. The re-development of the site into a new residential precinct with public spaces has the potential to transform Pyrmont. But this is not guaranteed to be a positive transformation.
The mega development that includes multiple towers of 35 storeys, which will house more than 1200 new residents, has not been matched with suitable green and open spaces, adequate provision for public transport and ferry services to and from the location.
Such a massive redevelopment needs to trigger planning for a nearby school and affordable housing provisions in the development or nearby it.
While increased housing is welcomed, good development of the site is NOT guaranteed without our local community remaining vigilant to the numerous development revisions and changes that can, and will, be made by the NSW Government and appointed developers of the site.
Pyrmont Action remains committed to lobbying for increased social housing across the development, detailed transport and road access plans, traffic mitigation plans during the years of building works, and investment in other social services to cater for significant increases in workers and residents because of the build. Pyrmont deserves a new school and more affordable housing.
How to get involved: Join with Pyrmont Action to ensure better outcomes are guaranteed for current and future residents of Pyrmont at one of the State’s most significant urban renewal investments.
